Perlite and Vermiculite
The Perlite is one of the best hydroponic growing mediums around. Used by itself or as a mixture with other mediums. Perlite is commonly used with vermiculite ( a 50 - 50 mix is a very popular medium), and is also one of the major ingredients of soiless mix's. perlite has good wicking action which makes it a good choice for wick-type hydroponic systems.
Vermiculite is another mined material. In it's natural state it resembles mica rock, but when quickly heated it expands due to the generation of interlaminar steam.
Vermiculite is most frequently used in conjunction with perlite as the two complement each other well. Vermiculite retains moisture (about 200% - 300% by weight), and perlite doesn't so you can balance your growing medium so that it retains water and nutrients well but still supplies the roots with plenty of oxygen. A 50/50 mix of vermiculite and perlite is a very popular medium for drip type hydroponic systems as well as ebb and flow systems.

Expanded Perlite
Horticulture,Agriculture, Hydroponic, Soil Amendment etc.
• Clean and sterile - no diseases introduced, no sterilisation necessary
• Lightweight and easy to handle
• Does not deteriorate - lasts indefinitely, value for money
• Does not compact thereby providing good aeration and drainage - ideal for long lasting plants
• Due capillary lift it keeps supplying water and nutrients to other plants when a reservoir is used. This reduces management as plants don't have to be watered as often.
• Prevents drying out as Perlite absorbs up to 5 times its own weight of water. A built-in safety factor
• Provides good insulation to protect roots from extreme temperature fluctuations thereby minimising plant stress.
What is benefit Perlite for Garden?
It has been used for many years to improve the soil for crops, gardens, indoor and outdoor plants and green roofs. It is ideal for the soil preparation of turf fields, such as golf courses and soccer fields.
Physical Characteristics of Perlite ?
Natural, inorganic and friendly to human health, it maintains its properties over long periods of time. It is chemically inert, sterile (expands to 1.000 C) and thus free of diseases and weed seeds. It is lightweight, reduces the weight of the soil and is widely used in green roofs and Roof Gardens.
Why Perlite and vermiculite can mix?
Perlite and vermiculate make an interesting pair of naturally occurring minerals with similar, but not identical, properties and multiple applications. These applications include construction, further segmented to various construction branches, like insulation, ultra- and lightweight concretes and aggregates, screed, roofing systems, asbestos alternative, etc.
